zurück zur Homepage6. General remarks.

For many club makers, and for even more people involved in manufacturing, marketing and assessing golf clubs, the smallest possible unit of golf club length is still 0.5 inch, i.e. 12.7 mm. Years ago, the author started to produce his own measuring patterns with 0.1 inch divisions.

As ever, using standard bending machines to measure or even produce loft and especially lie angles at fractions of degrees is still a great problem. However, the use of additional self-applied mirrors and magnifiers on a bending machine, has achieved thoroughly useful results. Critics of the new length fitting procedure will especially try to attack this, until suitable measuring devices can be supplied.

For club makers, both of the new procedures for producing genuinely individual fitting golf clubs – namely ProKid® for young golfers, with one test club per set to be produced; and ProAd® with two test clubs for adult golfers – can be easily implemented, providing they receive the required templates with the club heads from the component manufacturers, or they can have these templates produced themselves.

The brand manufacturers would almost certainly only show any interest in producing and supplying sets of individual fitting golf clubs if this would give them exclusivity over the competition, or if they need to avoid losing customers to club makers who process components and can easily offer the new procedure. This would, nevertheless, carry the condition that the new procedure would provide such companies with a sizeable profit.

A further, not insignificant aspect also comes into play for the ProKid® and ProAd® procedures: the state of the art hosel bending must be reliable when golf clubs are produced to fit. Thus, metals and casting processes can be used to produce heads that completely exclude the possibility of later, undesirable bending during a game of golf.
